Disney+ and Hulu have dropped the official trailer for Chad Powers, the original sports comedy series led by Glen Powell. Check out the trailer above and read the essentials.
Plot & Cast
Eight years after an unforgivable mistake earned his former bright college career, hotshot quarterback Russ Holiday (Powell) hatches his comeback plan. Become someone else. Under heavy prosthetics and a new persona, he walks to the catfish in South Georgia, struggling as “Chad Power.” Or, as Powell puts it in the trailer, “Does South Georgia have an open tryout? I’ll play Mrs. Fire, but with football.”
The cast also includes Perry Matt Feld as Ricky, Quentim Puare as Coach Bird, Win Everett as Trici Ayer, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny and Steve Zaan of Coach Jake Hudson.
The show traces its origins to Ellimanning’s 2022 sketch. There, the former NFL quarterback wore a prosthetic and took part in an open tryout in Pennsylvania. Behind the disguise
Powell and co-creator Michael Waldron created Chad from his voice. Powell told the Hollywood reporter that he wanted a “naturally comedic and fun” voice, but “it’s going to feel like a shot from the hips.”
In collaboration with his hitman dialect coach Suzanne Sruby, they gathered “the dirty accents from the south” and “Frankenstein” together. Or, as Powell says: “If you were trying to invent a character, what if someone was like, ‘Hey, throw your voice right now’. Under obsession, what do you wear? ”
Waldron is dull about interests. “The voice is really a shark on the jaw,” he says. “If our voices don’t work, we’re sinking.”
The exterior also took some time. “There was a lot of trial and error,” says Powell. “There’s a shot I have on the scary version of the phone. This is a show that no one can see. It’s so grotesque.”
I also had real headaches, including helmets, chin straps and wigs. “At the beginning of the football season, I definitely had to be calm, and that was my first time,” Powell says.
