It’s sink or swim when Australia’s biggest names jump into the 2024 Celebrity Relay Race at the Australian Swimming Trials on Wednesday 12 June.
In a big change of pace, a large cast of Australian celebrities and swimming legends will gather at the Brisbane Aquatic Center to aim for glory in the 50m freestyle relay.
A diverse cast including Karl Stefanovic, Michelle Payne, Jonathan Thurston, Sylvia Jeffries, Millie Elliott (née Boyle), husband and wife duo Owen Wright (surfing) and Kita Alexander (musician), and Clint Stanaway. A cast of personalities will make up the Celebrity Brigade. , Kerry Potthurst, Nitro Circus BMX rider Ryan Williams, Sam Thaiday and Wallabies rugby union legend Drew Mitchell.
Australian swimming legends will be in attendance including Susie O’Neill, Duncan Armstrong, Mack Houghton, Jess Schipper, Jodie Henry and Justin Norris to name a few.
Stefanovic said: “You’ve all heard of Torpedo, but now it’s Carnado’s turn. I’ve never seen a specimen like this in the swimming world. I always think Queen’s deserves a few extra points. We are returning to our home base in Land State and will defeat all challengers for the gold medal.”
Sylvia Jeffries said, “My swimming career may have peaked in high school with a 7th place finish at the district championships, but I’m 12 feet tall and have built-in flippers. I’m not afraid.”
Thaiday said: “After gliding like a gazelle in the pool and training sessions with Dean Boxall last year, I’m now ready to outwit and outwit my way to glory.”
“I’ve been studying the methods of some of the greats while watching football in my lounge room, so I’m going to harness the power of budgie smugglers to get the job done. Thanks to this, I can swim faster. I can still make the team for Paris in 2024.”
