Bill Heder voices the iconic cat in this whole new animated theatrical adventure. Technically, if you count his turn in a 2014 SNL sketch as a Dr. Seuss character, it’s a reprise.
This plot finds a cat summoned for his most difficult task by IIII (the LLC Institute, this is the Institute of Imagination and Inspiration). But being a chaos whirlwind has consequences. If the cat cannot help these children find joy, he may lose his magic hat forever.
This trailer introduces a visually vibrant world. Courtesy of DNEG animation (Nimona, that Christmas), this has kinetic energy and a playful tone that is almost certainly felt to match the source material of Seuss than previous screen adaptations. Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda) will be directing alongside co-director Erica Rivinoja, both of whom handle the writing duties.
Hader will be joined by Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Paula Pell, Tiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Yang and Titus Burgess. This shows the major animation return of Cat in the Hat, following the 1971 CBS special and the infamous 2003 live-action film starring Mike Myers.

The cat in a hat will open at the US cinema on February 27th and at the Australia cinema on March 19th, 2026.
