Bruce Springsteen has shared some glowing comments about his character, played by Jeremy Allen White, in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. The two-time Golden Globe winner is perhaps best known for his role in the acclaimed series The Bear, a film that chronicled the making of his iconic 1982 album Nebraska. He plays the role of Springsteen.
Springsteen admitted on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio that watching someone else play him “felt a little (weird) at first,” but he quickly got used to it. “You’ll get over it quickly,” Springsteen said. “And Jeremy is such a great actor that I just fell in love with him right away. He has an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. I really enjoyed being there when I could get there.”
Springsteen also praised White’s singing ability, which was a key element of the role. “He’s a good singer, very good,” the music star said. He went on to highlight the film’s ensemble, which includes Succession stars Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young (The Staircase). “We have a really great cast. They’ve cast this movie beautifully, so it’s really exciting.”
White expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the role. In a September 2024 interview with Deadline, he called Springsteen “lovable and supportive” throughout the process. “I have a really great team of people helping me, and Bruce has been really nice and supportive and personable, which has made this whole process even more enjoyable. He also stated that his preparation for the role included extensive vocal and musical training, as well as studying Springsteen’s acting and interviews.
Deliver Me from Nowhere is from writer/director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) and is based on the book of the same name by Warren Zane. Springsteen and his longtime manager Jon Landau, played in the film by Jeremy Strong, are actively involved in the production. Landau also praised White’s casting, calling him “perfect” for the role.
20th Century Studios plans to release the biopic sometime in 2025. In case you missed it, here’s the first look image of White as Springsteen that was released.
