Production on the next chapter of binge mystery thriller series High Country is underway in Victoria, with Brendan Cowell, Ryan Coe and Nadine Garner joining the cast.
In “High Country: Grounded,” Leah Purcell’s Andy becomes embroiled in an incident far more dangerous and personal than she could have imagined, testing her loyalties and challenging everything she thought she knew about herself, her community, and the High Country she calls home.
Ian McElhinney, Sarah Wiseman and Aaron Pedersen will reprise their roles for the second season, which is being filmed in Jamieson, Mansfield and Eildon in the Victorian Alps and near Melbourne.
Produced by Foxtel Group’s Curio Pictures, the series has received major production investment from Screen Australia and Foxtel Group, in association with VicScreen and the ABC.
Creators John Ridley and Marcia Gardner wrote the new episodes with Kim Wilson and Beck Cole, with Lucy Guffey and Ben Lucas sharing the directorial duties.
Executive producers and producers Joe Porter and Rachel Gardner will serve as executive producers alongside Angie Fielder and executive producers alongside Purcell and Ridley. Lana Greenhalgh and Penny Win are executive producers for Foxtel Group.
Sony Pictures Television will handle international sales.
Purcell said she was delighted to be stepping into the shoes of Andrea Whitford again, following the first season, which was the most streamed series on Binge in both March and April 2024 and also received strong ratings on BBC1 in the UK and Hulu in the US.
“I can’t wait to bring this long-awaited new chapter to audiences around the world,” she said.
“With a well-crafted, innovative story, great new talent joining the cast, and persistent questions finally answered, what more could you want from Season 2?”
Mr Cowell, whose credits include recent ABC series Plums and Dunes: A Prophecy, said he couldn’t wait to join the series’ “Australian Gothicness”.
“I would never pass up an opportunity to pair it with the great Leah Purcell,” he said.
“And the reach High Country has achieved around the world is a team effort.”
