The two book adaptations are among 15 projects to share $8.1 million in the latest round of production funding from Screen Australia.

Watching You is Stan’s six-part psychological thriller series based on the novel The Last Guests (Hachette) by JP Pomare. Watching You is created for television by Alexei Mizin and Ryan Van Dyke and produced by Jason Stevens and Breanne Sykes. Executive producers are Helen Borden, Kyla Scobee, and Alicia Brown.

The thriller has production investment from Stan and funding is supported by Screen NSW through the Made in NSW Fund. Post, digital and visual effects are also supported by Screen NSW, with the series being financed and distributed in partnership with ITV Studios.

Zack Power is an animated family film published by Hardy Grant Children’s Publishing and based on the book series of the same name written by a team of authors who wrote under the pseudonym HI Larry. Screen Australia said of the series: “The arrival of a brilliant new agent puts Zack Power’s position as top teenage spy in jeopardy.” When his recklessness allows an ostentatious supervillain to steal high-tech weapons, Zack is forced to face his shortcomings and team up with his rival. ”

The film was directed by Alex Staderman and David Webster, and written by Finn Edquist, John Armstrong, Lawrence Leon, and Erica Harrison. The film, produced by Flying Bark Productions and Cheeky Little Media, is funded in partnership with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation.

This funding round follows recent announcements from Screen Australia about funding the production of four new children’s titles to be screened on the ABC, including ‘Do Not Watch This Show’. Funded by VicScreen, the children’s series will also be shown on ABC Family and ABC iView in 2025.

Don’t Watch This Show is an animated adaptation of the children’s book series Don’t Open This Book (Lake Press) created by comedian and author Andy Lee and illustrated by Heath Mackenzie This is what I did.

Directed by Leo Baker. Series producer Patrick Crowley. Lee is listed as a producer alongside Greg Sitch and as a writer alongside Jason Marion, Katie Westcott, Melanie Bracewell and Ray Mattsen. Heath McKenzie is the art director.

VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher said of the series: “Andy Lee’s new animated series Don’t Watch This Show spearheads a fantastic line-up of new children’s television programs supported by the Victorian Government, showcasing our creativity and film industry talent. We continue to support quality children’s entertainment and are proud to support Victoria’s film industry in bringing these great new stories to our screens. ”
