Nollywood series Blood Sisters, which premiered on Netflix in 2022, has only released four episodes and remains labeled as a limited series to this day. That’s no longer the case, as Netflix has ordered a second season of the series, which is expected to begin production soon.
The series, which will be released worldwide on May 5, 2022, depicts Chemie and her best friend Sara, who is forced to go on the run after a wealthy groom disappears during his engagement party. It reached the global top 10 in one week and was viewed 3.2 million times.
News of the relaunch was broken yesterday by Mo Abudu (EbonyLife CEO), with subsequent on-the-ground reports from What Kept Me Up and Ynaija.
“Blood Sisters Season 2 is in production,” Abdu posted on Instagram, which currently has over 2,000 likes. “We’re excited to share that BLOOD SISTERS 2 is officially live. We had the most amazing table read last week. 18 months of development with talented writers Craig Freimond, Zeli Zulu, and Adze Ugah. After all, the excitement is palpable.”
The Instagram post also revealed that most of the cast will be returning for season 2, and that there will be some new faces in the new season. These newcomers include Michelle Dede, Ifianyi Kalu, Ben Lugo T., Anita Asuoha, Blessing Obasi, Bolaji Ogunmola, Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko and Mike Afolarin.
The Instagram post read: “It will still be some time before BLOOD SISTERS 2 hits our screens, but we are in pre-production and gearing up to shoot in just a few weeks. Stay tuned for more twists and turns! Thank you, Netflix, for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to create more magic!”
