“Blade”: Kevin Feige checks modern settings and deals with delays

Kevin Feige shed a little more light on the blades, a creative reset, a long delayed reboot that survived the loss of two directors.

There is no release date, but it was officially removed from Marvel’s calendar in 2024, but the film is still in development and we’ve confirmed that Feige is currently set to the modern era. And yes, Mahershala Ali remains obsessed with the stars.

“We’ve landed in modern times.”

In a sit-in with the journalist, Feige revealed that Marvel had developed four versions of Blade, including two period set takes set in the 1930s. “We’ve landed in the modern era, and that’s what we’re focusing on,” he said.

This film has been involved in the film for over a decade. Marvel regained blade rights following the New Line Blade Trilogy (1998–2004) and began internal development in 2013. In July 2019, Feige officially announced a reboot at San Diego Comic-Con, taking Ali to the stage and revealing him as a new blade.

Ali later made an unspeakable voice forever (2021), but his independent film has remained elusive ever since.

Why Marvel has suspended production

The project has circulated through multiple creatives over the years. Director Bassam Tarik (Mogul Mowgli) left in September 2022, with Yann Demange (’71) later intervening. Feige dealt with the ongoing delays and emphasized that Marvel didn’t want to proceed without being completely confident in the material.

“You can start and have a good script and make it a great script through production, but we weren’t sure we could do that with the blade,” he said. “We didn’t want to do it because we didn’t want it to be Mahershala.”

Feige added: “We didn’t want (Ali) to put leather clothes on them and start killing vampires.”

Ryan Coogler is not involved, but he borrowed some outfits

The success of Ryan Coogler’s vampire film in the 1930s released earlier this year, Sinner, sparked speculation that he might direct Blade. Feige quickly shut it down.

“There’s no such plan,” he said.

Still, Feige joked about his behind-the-scenes favor: “The obstacle was called Ryan Coogler and said, “We love some outfits for the sinners.” And we said, “Take them, man,” he is our good friend, we hold back the film. ”

Where the blade is standing now

There is no solid release date yet, and the project remains without a director. But the writing duties are now in the hands of Eric Pearson (Tall: Ragnarok, Black Widow), who is working on the latest draft.

Despite the beginnings of frustration and falsehood, Feige’s updates confirm that Marvel hasn’t shelved Daywalker yet.
