Comedian Mark Humphries applies a humorous lens to the Australian housing market with a new one-hour documentary set airing on Binge and Fox 8.

Produced and sold by Wedge-Tail Pictures! Who broke Australia’s dream? We explore pressure on renters, current home prices, rising rents, and “Australian dreams” that feel more affordable than ever before, and explore what changes in Australia’s home landscape are needed.

Filming is currently underway for the project, which features locations around Australia.

Craig Reucassel works with producer/director Bill Code, producer Justine Moyle, Foxtel/Binge Head of Uncracted Originals Howard Myers-Rifai and Foxtel/Binge Executive Producer Jacqueline Saddington.

Screen Australia provided major production investments in connection with Screen NSW and supported through the Development Fund, Production Finance Fund and Regional Photography Fund. There was also financial support from Henry Holmes, Landcomb, the Housing Industry Association and the City of Sydney.

Myers-Rifai said the documentary combined important conversations with much-needed laughter.

“We look forward to being sold! Who broke Australia’s dream?” he said.

“The housing crisis is something we all experience, whether we are tenants or homeowners, and Mark’s journey is a very relevant and timely accepting of issues affecting millions of Australians.

Director of Screen Australia’s documentary Richard Huddleston said having Humphrey at the helm means there’s a solution, not just laughs. “

“With no sign of a housing crisis going away, this timely film advocates a compelling, insightful, solution-based argument for change,” he said.

“Packed punches along the way and sold! Those who broke Australia’s dreams provide important contributions to the national conversation.”

Screen NSW Head Kyas Hepworth said her organization is pleased that the NSW local community can play a central role in bringing this important conversation to the screen.

“Screen NSW will support and sell the team at Wedge-Tail Pictures! Who broke Australia’s dream?” she said.

“With its sharp, comedic edge and compelling storytelling, the show explores one of the pressing issues many Australians face today.

I sold it! Who broke Australia’s dream? The performance will premiere at 8:30pm on Foxtel’s Fox8 and Binge at 12pm on July 21st.
