Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a romance fantasy film starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Look up and dig deeper below.
Directed by Cogonada (after Jan, Columbus), the film follows Sarah (Robby) and David (Pharrell). What begins as a quirky detour is quickly unleashed into something much more existential. The pair discovers a mysterious portal that sends them into their past, allowing them to witness and reevaluate.
“It’s a kind of love story, but it’s not very typical,” Farrell said in an interview with Corider. “It’s definitely magical realism. It’s based on the world we recognize, but it’s also well removed from the fantastical world of entering this kind of whimsical place.”
With its whimsical tone and imaginative premise, the film explores the idea of second chance and self-resistance. Farrell said, “They both have terrible relationships. They couldn’t find a momentary joy in relationships or relationships. And they went on this fantastical journey and began to find it through each other as a result of this night, which can be seen from this perspective that can be seen from these moments of life, and they can hurt people.
The trailer is blended with warm and lively cinematography, gentle humor and romantic melancholy, bullying sequences of dreamy landscapes and philosophical turns. For Farrell, working on the film was a welcome shift from the gritty darkness of the recent HBO series The Penguin. “Because film is about healing, it’s about life, it’s about finding love, it’s about finding self-acceptance,” Farrell said. “So it was a nice antidote for me, as it was soft.”
The film was written by Seth Rice (Menu), and Cogonada also contributed to the script. The behind-the-scenes team includes composer Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Departures), cinematographer Benjamin Loeb (after Yang, Mandy), and editor Susan E. Kim (Pachinko, Little Light).
A big, bold, beautiful journey with a cast that also includes Jodie Turner Smith, Lily Labe, Phoebe Waller Bridge and Hamish Linklater will be held in Australian cinemas on September 18th and in the US on September 19th.
