The new comedy entertainment series’ big backyard quiz has begun filming in Perth.
The 10-part National Indigenous Television (NITV) series, hosted by Narrelda Jacobs Orm and Stephen Oliver, explores Australia’s history and culture through the lens of Indigenous peoples. The show features guest appearances from top comedians who compete in games and quiz rounds on topics such as people, land, food, music, sports and more.
“It’s always a joy to be home in the country and to showcase local talent in such an interesting way,” Jacobs said.
The series is based on the success of last year’s one-off big backyard quiz program. Production includes 17 Western Australian First Nations Crew members and a total of 24 First Nations Crew members. More than half of the cast and crew are Indigenous, and the full cast is expected to be announced later this year.
Tanya Denning Orman, director of SBS’ First Nations, praised the host and local crew, saying, “We have an incredible local crew working on production. Series To Life.” โ
ScreenWest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall welcomed the opportunity to support the growth of Western Australia’s First Nations Screen sector.
The public is invited to attend filming a big backyard quiz in Perth, and registrations are available online. The series is set to premiere on NITV and SBS On Demand in 2025.
