Michael Gracey’s Better Man carried its success from the AACTA nominations into the AACTA International category, leading the field with six awards.
The film, which opens on Boxing Day, is up for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, along with acting nominations for its lead cast. This comes after the Docklands title secured a record-breaking 16 nominations at local awards.
Brady Corbet’s historical drama The Brutalist was the next highest-rated film, receiving five nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for Guy Pearce. Jacques Audiard’s musical crime comedy “Emilia Perez,” Palme d’Or winner Sean Baker’s “Anora,” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune Part 2” round out the five Best Picture nominees.
Other Australian nominees include George Miller for Best Director for Furiosa, Toni Collette for Best Supporting Actress for Juror #2, and Nicole for Best Actress for Baby Girl.・Kidman has been nominated.
In the TV category, FX series Shogun and Hulu’s kitchen-set drama The Bear each received three nominations, as did Australian production companies Boy Swallows Universe and Colin From Accounts. I was nominated. Emmy winner Elizabeth Debicki was also nominated for her role as Princess Diana in The Crown.
This year’s AACTA Awards Industry Gala will be held on Wednesday, February 5th, and the AACTA Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, February 7th. Both ceremonies will be held at HOTA, the Gold Coast’s home for the arts, as part of AACTA. The festival will be held for five days from February 5th to 9th.
