If I have to be the bearer of bad news (or good news, depending on your position), so be it. Jelly sandals are back this summer. Oh yeah, squishy, sticky flats have limited arch support and can wreak havoc on your nose. How wonderful!
Okay, okay, I realize I hate myself and I apologize. Despite my complaints, I think jelly sandals are really cute. They come in fun colors, often have glitter, and are super comfortable thanks to their fluffy nature. It’s also a nostalgic nostalgic for simpler times, and is more beloved than ever in the age of reboots (geddit?).
It’s clear that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen love jelly shoes. That’s because they released the controversial jelly flat on their label The Row, touted as the season’s “it” shoe and turning heads everywhere at Paris Fashion Week.
But that fanfare quickly died down when the sandals’ surprising price tag was revealed. Yes, these babies cost upwards of $1,000, but there have also been complaints that they are fragile. oh yeah.
However, the good news is that not all jellies are the same. If you’re a skeptic like me, now’s the perfect time to dip your toes in and see if this romance can be rekindled.
