The Space Age has finally arrived. So Factorio: Space Age, the long-awaited DLC pack for the popular factory management game, has finally been released after a long wait. The expansion has already been showered with praise from players, and with its release, Factorio has more than doubled its previous Steam player count record.
Factorio reached 1.0 in 2020 after a long stay in Steam Early Access, at which point the game reached a peak of 34,700 concurrent players, as shown by SteamDB. In 2021, developer Wube Software announced that the sequel would be a major expansion pack, which in 2023 would become Space Age, built in part by one of the game’s most prominent modders. It has been announced.
Today, Space Age finally launches, and the number of concurrent players has already reached 76,646, and as I write this, that number continues to grow. Players who played a few hours early or spent more time in the early beta have already posted 1,057 reviews on Steam, 98% of which are “overwhelmingly positive.” No matter how you look at it, Space Age is certainly a sequel-sized update, and may actually be much bigger than the original game.
In Factorio, you crash land on an alien planet and have to start harvesting resources to build a rocket to escape from the planet. As the name suggests, Space Age takes place in the aftermath, challenging you to find new resources and build new factory chains in space and various new planets with their own biomes. Judging by the reaction so far and the precedent set by the original game, you can probably expect this game to consume hundreds of hours of your free time.
