BBC Studios Productions Australia, in partnership with Screenwest, has begun production on supernatural comedy Ghost in Western Australia.
Announced as part of Paramount ANZ’s 2025 Upfront, the eight-part series follows lovers Kate and Sean as they navigate the hellish inner-city rental market until Kate inherits a huge mansion in the countryside. The film follows a couple who are about to jump into a dangerous situation.
A young couple moving in together for the first time attempt domestic bliss, but unbeknownst to them, the house is haunted by a collection of destitute ghosts who have taken up residence at Ram’s Head Manor over the past 200 years.
The original series, produced by Monumental Television in partnership with Them There, first aired on BBC One in 2019 and its fifth and final season became the UK’s most-watched comedy in 2023 . A U.S. version has since been produced, and the fourth season is currently airing. season – and the newly announced German adaptation.
The Australian version is expected to be filmed in Perth in the coming months, with support from the Western Australian Production Attractions Incentive.
Christian Van Vuuren and Madeline Dyer will direct the episode, Breanne Sykes will produce, and Sofia Zachariu will serve as executive producer.
Josh Mapleston leads a writing team that includes script editor Libby Butler, Shontel Ketchel (Gold Diggers), Philip Tarr Denson (Zero Point), and Steph Tisdell. The cast has not been announced yet.
ScreenWest said the production represents the start of an exciting year for the state’s film industry, which recently announced the third season of the crowded courtroom drama “The Twelve” and ABC’s “Mystery Road: The second season of “Origin” has arrived.

BBC Studios Productions Australia general manager and creative director Kylie Washington said the state was the “perfect backdrop” for the series’ comedic antics.
