BBC Studios announces new APAC structure for media and streaming

BBC Studios will consolidate its media and streaming operations in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) and Asia into a single APAC region under the leadership of Robbi Stanton, who has been appointed to the expanded role of President of APAC Media and Streaming.

This follows Mr Stanton’s appointment as vice president and general manager of global media and streaming for Australia and New Zealand earlier this year. Previously, he worked at CNN International, where he focused on business development, distribution, and news monetization in the Asia-Pacific market. Her experience also includes multiple senior leadership roles at Warner Bros. Discovery and Turner International in both Australia and Singapore.

She said BBC Studios had an “extraordinary portfolio and talented team across Asia Pacific”.

“I’m excited to lead the next chapter, building a more connected and agile business focused on delivering world-class content and experiences to audiences across the region.”

As the main commercial arm of BBC Commercial, BBC Studios comprises a content studio that produces, invests in and distributes TV and audio around the world, as well as a media and streaming component featuring UKTV, BBC.com, BritBox International, and joint ventures in the UK and abroad.

BBC Studios, which has had offices in Australia and New Zealand since 2018, has worked on unscripted formats such as Foxtel’s The Great Australian Bake Off, game show The 1% Club for Seven and SBS ob-doc The Matchmakers, as well as Australian versions of The Office and Ghosts.

The company is also involved in the upcoming Bluey feature film, continuing a partnership that began in 2019 when it struck a deal with Disney to broker the first two seasons of Ludo Studio’s animated children’s series for release on Disney Junior and the streaming service Disney+ in all territories except Australia, New Zealand and Greater China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan).

BBC Studios Global Channels, Streaming and UKTV CEO Marcus Arthur said combining BBC Studios’ ANZ and Asia media and streaming businesses under Mr Stanton’s leadership was a strategic step forward.

“Robi brings clarity, energy and a keen commercial perspective to the region. We are confident that this partnership will open new opportunities for growth and collaboration across APAC,” he said.
