The Australian Government has passed legislation increasing location offsets from 16.5% to 30% for projects that begin principal photography on or after 1 July 2023.

To qualify, producers must have a budget of at least A$20 million (US$13.3 million) for a feature-length production, or A$1.5 million (US$1 million) per hour for a television series.

Production companies must also meet a minimum training expense test, establish or upgrade permanent Australian film infrastructure, or invest in a qualifying training program. We use one or more Australian providers to provide post, digital and visual effects for production. As part of the application process, we will provide specific data such as employment of Australian crew and use of Australian companies.

According to Per Screen Australia’s Drama Report, overseas drama production and post-production spending was driven by titles such as Universal’s The Fallen Guys, Warner Bros. and Godzilla It reached a record-breaking level of A$20 million (US$780 million). Alongside post, digital and visual effects (PDV), New Empire is also working on titles not shot in Australia, including Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2 and Indiana Jones .

Projects scheduled to shoot in Australia include Amazon MGM Studios/AGBO’s The Bluff, Amazon MGM Studios/Skydance’s Balls Up, and Sony’s untitled shark thriller in Victoria. Included.
