The story of disgraced Australian wellness influencer and ‘Whole Pantry’ founder Belle Gibson is getting the Netflix treatment in new series ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’.
It’s already a dramatic and scandalous ordeal, but TV executives shouldn’t have to overdo it to make binge-worthy TV.
According to Tudum, the six-episode limited series will “explore the birth of Instagram and serve as a cultural interrogation of our time.” The charm and prosperity of wellness culture. Girlboss startup culture at its peak. And the age of innocence on social media, where checks and balances are largely absent. ”
Is Apple Cider Vinegar Based on a True Story?
Apple Cider Vinegar is based on the true story of con artist Belle Gibson and the lies on which her wellness business was built.
For the uninitiated, Ms. Gibson claimed to have cured her terminal brain tumor using alternative therapies, specifically diet and exercise. She lied not only about her cancer diagnosis, but also about her age and the amount she donated to charity.
Thanks to her loyal following online, a cookbook and subsequent app, The Whole Pantry, was born. In 2015, Ms Gibson came clean in an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly magazine, admitting that all her claims about curing her cancer with natural remedies were false.
Two years later, in 2017, she was found guilty of misleading and deceptive conduct and ordered to repay more than $400,000 in sales from both her cookbook and app.
Who is the cast of apple cider vinegar
Belle Gibson is played by Kaitlyn Deaver, best known for her roles in Booksmart and Dopesick, but before you ask, she’s not Australian. However, she worked with a Melbourne-based dialect coach to correct her accent.
The rest of Apple Cider Vinegar’s cast boasts a profile of local Australian talent, including Alicia Debnam-Carey, Fear the Walking Dead, The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee and Tilda Cobham-Harvey.
Where was Apple Cider Vinegar filmed?
The series was filmed in Melbourne, Australia, where Bell was originally based. The show’s writer, Australian Samantha Strauss, told Tudham that she wanted to showcase the beauty of Victoria’s capital.
“We had a lot of filming locations that took us from far-flung parts of Melbourne one day to the Dandenong Ranges the next,” says Strauss. “We wanted to show that Melbourne is an aspirational place.”
When will apple cider vinegar be released?
Netflix is being tight-lipped about Apple Cider Vinegar’s release date, so check back here for updates as they arrive.
Is there a trailer for the show?
Netflix has released a first look trailer for the limited series, and it’s unsurprisingly gripping. In the short, one-minute video, a therapist is seen asking a clearly anxious Bell a question.
“Can you tell me how this started?” he asks. Watch the clip below.
