Slow and steady doesn’t always win the race. After releasing four seasons in just over two years, Slow Horses has already been renewed for a sixth season on Apple TV+. Slough House wins again! In fact, many shows received early renewals this month. The Diplomat will return for a second season on October 31st, but has been renewed for a third season. Prime Video’s Reacher has been renewed for a fourth season ahead of the third season’s premiere. And Netflix’s The Night Agent was renewed for season 3 before season 2 was released. October is not a waste of time. Meanwhile, Apple TV+’s noir drama Sugar, starring Colin Farrell, has been renewed for season 2, and another Apple TV+ series, Shrinking, has also been renewed for season 3. Other updates this month include Netflix’s romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This,” Hulu’s reality series “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” and Adult Swim’s animated comedy “Rick and Morty.”
In terms of cancellations, the ’90s dream is over for Netflix. The streamer canceled That ’90s Show after two seasons. Netflix also canceled the modern Greek mythology drama “Chaos” and the workplace comedy “Unstable.” In other news, Max fired Velma, AMC canceled Parrish, and Starz ended the Serpent Queen’s reign (although another queen, Elizabeth I, could take the throne). .

(Deadline October 10) Velma, Max: The adult animated series about Scooby-Doo’s Velma (voiced by Mindy Kaling) was canceled after two seasons. (Variety, Oct. 9) Chaos, Netflix: The Greek mythology remix starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus was canceled after one season. (Variety, Oct. 8) That ’90s Show, Netflix: The sequel series to That ’70s Show has been canceled after two seasons with disappointing ratings. Rick and Morty, Adult Swim: This animated comedy has been renewed for two more seasons, running through Season 12. This news was announced at New York Comic Con. (October 17, Adult Swim) Project Runway, Freeform: The fashion competition has been renewed for Season 21, but there’s a catch. The show will move from Bravo to Freeform. Episodes will also be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. Season 21 is expected to premiere in 2025. (Deadline October 10) Reacher, Prime Video: The action crime series based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series has been renewed for a fourth season. The good news came early, before the season 3 premiere. (Variety, October 9) Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’: Sean Ryan thriller renewed for season 3 before season 2 premieres. That’s good news. The bad news is that season 2 has been pushed back to 2025 instead of the previously announced 2024 release. Season 1 of The Night Agent currently ranks seventh on Netflix’s list of most-watched English-language television series of all time. (Deadline Oct. 8) The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Hulu: The reality hit about #MomTok has been given the green light for 20 more episodes. That means we’ll be back for season 2, maybe season 3. New episodes are expected this spring. (Variety, Oct. 3) Sugar, Apple TV+: Colin Farrell’s twisty noir detective series has been renewed for a second season. Breaking Bad producer Sam Catlin will serve as the new showrunner, replacing Mark Protosevich.
