Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the official trailer for Hunt After The Hunt, a psychological thriller of filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (Challenger, Call Me by Your Name). The film stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebili, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stullberg and Chloe Sevigny. Please read the trailer above and read more about it.
A university scandal unfolds
Hunt is centered around Alma (Julia Roberts) and a respected university professor when a student named Maggie condemns Professor Hank (Andrew Garfield) for sexual assault. The charges spill over the entire campus, challenging her reputation and being forced to confront secrets from her past, which she has been buried by Alma for years.
The trailer introduces ideological clashes from the start. “Your generation, you’re scared to say the wrong thing. When did you become an outstanding cardinal sin to make someone angry?” Hank tells Maggie. Her response? “Maybe it’s about the same as your generation started making a drastic generalization about ours.”
From that point on, the drama gets deeper. Maggie says “he crossed the line,” and Hank counters by denouncement of the plagiarism. In the middle is Alma, balancing the weight of her history with the current pressure.
Roberts leads a strong cast
Alongside Roberts, Edebili and Garfield, the film features Michael Stullberg and Chloe Sevigny. The cast also includes other notable names such as Josh Hamilton and Will Rop.
The script comes from Nora Garrett, produced by the executive. Guadagnino produces through his enthusiastic banners along with Briang Laser and Alan Mandelbaum from Imagine Entertainment. Karen Lunder (Imagine) is also an executive producer.
Behind the scenes with Guadagnino
Speaking with the deadline at Cinemacon 2025, Andrew Garfield looked back at Guadagnino’s unique approach to supervising. “What’s exciting and surprising about being with Luka on set was how loose he was, how relaxed he was, how spontaneous he was, and he was completely focused at this point and when he needed him,” Garfield said. “He’s a very accurate filmmaker at the same time, so I found it to be very surprising.”
Ayo Edebiri added that the film is built for dialogue. “It’s a film where you watch, talk, discuss, and feel with other people.”
release date
In the US, Hunting will open in Select Cinema (New York and Los Angeles) on October 10th, and will expand nationwide on October 17th. Sony Pictures will release the film at Australian Cinemas on October 16th.
