“Adolescent” Trailer: Stephen Graham faces parents’ nightmare in Netflix’s one-shot series

Netflix

Netflix has released the first trailer for Adolescence, a fierce, four-part limited series that unfolds in completely real-time, built as a single shot. Starring Stephen Graham (Boiling Point, Group), the series delves into the tragic aftermath of shocking crime, forcing families and investigators to stand up to difficult questions. Look up.

Crimes that crush family

At the heart of adolescence there is a catastrophic scenario. 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is arrested from his school for the murder of a teenage girl, causing his family to become confused. Graham, who co-created the series, will play Jamie’s father, Eddie Miller.

The purpose of this series is to explore the pressure placed on young men in modern society. “One of our goals is to ask, “What’s going on with our young men these days, and what pressure they face from their peers, from the internet and from social media?” That was,” Graham told the Netflix site Tudum. “And the pressure that comes from all of them is as difficult for the kids here as they do in the world.”

A unique approach to crime dramas

Rather than focusing on the depiction of crime and problematic young people stereotypes, adolescents takes a different route and creates a deeply unstable yet relevant family tragedy. “It could have been about a gangster or knife crime, or a child whose mother is an alcoholic or whose father is a violent abuser,” explained Graham. “Instead, we wanted you to see this family and think of it as ‘My God’. This could be happening to us! “And what’s going on here is the worst nightmare of a normal family. ”

The show’s real-time one-shot format adds to its strength. Coach Philip Barantini, known for using the same technique at boiling points, explained the immeasurable challenges behind it. “Essentially, that means pressing the record on the camera, and not pressing stop until the end of time,” Balantini told Netflix. “But it’s much more complicated than I thought. It’s all at every stage, from months of preparation and weeks of rehearsals to the location, production design, to where the camera can shoot accurately and precisely where it is. We need an incredible team of people to separate ourselves.”

Cast and creative team

Alongside Graham and newcomer Owen Cooper, adolescents include Ashley Walters (top boy), detective inspector Luke Bascom and Erin Doherty (Crown) as clinical psychologist Brionie Ariston, and Faye. Marsai (Game of Thrones), Christine Tremarco (Responder), Mark Stanley (Happy Valley), Joe Hartley (After Life), and the Amelie Peas.

The series is created by Graham and Jack Thorne (The Swimmers, Joy) in collaboration with director Barantini. Produced by Warp Films, Matriarch Productions and One Shoe Films, all made Up Productions, with Plan B Entertainment from Brad Pitt offering entertainment among executive producers.

release date

All four episodes of adolescence premiere on Netflix on March 13th.
