If this is happening… wow. The surprising report has made waves in Hollywood and points to potentially prominent collaborations between David Fincher, Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino.
As the playlist first reported, Fincher is set to direct a new film written by Tarantino. Pitt returned as a cliff booth. The publication first ran the story on April Fools Day (which naturally raised eyebrows about its legitimacy), but ever since, the reputable outlet has in fact confirmed that there is a project in the work that involves these major players.
Industry outlet deadlines and the Hollywood Reporter report that Tarantino’s shelved project has evolved into a new script that focuses on the Booth’s ongoing adventures. Rather than directing the film himself, Tarantino is said to have given Pitt the green light to get closer to Fincher. Fincher, who currently has an exclusive deal with Netflix, is said to have agreed to helm the film.
Technically it’s called a “derivation” rather than a direct sequel, but the project clearly shares DNA with Tarantino’s 2019 film. It is also said to be separate from film critics despite the project’s origins.
At the moment, the official title has not been revealed, and cast details remain unconfirmed. Leonardo DiCaprio’s return as Rick Dalton appears unlikely, but the outlet hints that debate may be ongoing. Margot Robbie reportedly informed her availability if the production tried to include her.
The film will mark an extraordinary move for Tarantino, known for directing his own script. However, this could serve as a workaround to allow him to explore the characters from his previous films without undermining his plan to close the director’s career with the 10th original feature.
Netflix has not yet commented publicly on the project. Whether it’s a streaming-only spinoff or digging deeper into the booth’s shadowy past, the possibility that Fincher will oversee the Tarantino script at the pitfront and center is a powerful and fascinating proposition.
stay tuned!
