ABC has begun production on the revival of its creative competition series “Race Around the World,” with a nationwide call for submissions from filmmakers, content creators and storytellers.
Produced by Endemol Shine Australia, the series will build on the legacy of the breakout ’90s documentary series, in which eight candidates spend 100 days traversing the globe on their own, creating 10 video stories along the way. Alumni include satirist and radio personality John Safran and film director and producer Bentley Dean.
According to ABC, the new edition is “both a homage to the spirit of the original and a bold reimagining,” and “celebrates the raw power of authentic, on-site storytelling and the boundless curiosity that fuels it.”
“We’re thrilled to be bringing this iconic series back to Australian audiences. It’s really exciting to reignite that sense of creative adventure and champion a new generation of storytellers,” ABC Head of Entertainment Rachel Miller said.
Endemol Shine Australia CEO Peter Newman felt the format would “stimulate audiences across Australia and a new wave of talent who were lucky enough to be selected to take part”.
“We are extremely excited to be bringing back this much-loved global adventure competition,” he said.
“The original series resonated deeply with viewers, continues to be talked about today and unearthed some of Australia’s greatest screen talent.
Race Around the World will premiere on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2026. Visit the website for more information on how to apply.
