Ernie Dingo, ABC News breakfast host Bridget Brennan and musician Isaac Compton will be fronting the new First Nations variety program, which will be screened on ABC ahead of this year’s NAIDOC Week celebration.
To be broadcast in front of live studio audiences, the Blackfella Show will feature guests such as Steph Tisdell, Dane Simpson, Abbie Chatfield, Jimmy Barnes, Autback Tom, Barkaa, and Kevin Kropinyeri.
There is also the iconic black anthem performance of Aboriginal Australian musical duo Electric Fields, the Rippil Effect Band of the Manning Rida All female rock band, and the Aria nominated singer, songwriter and rapper Miss Kanina.
The one-hour program is an executive produced by Rowdie Walden and works with director of ABC Indigenous Kelrick Martin.
In a comment to Variety Australia, Walden said the programme was about “celebrating the mob and bringing audiences with us.”
“At this point it is very different from many Indigenous content on screen, a unique Indigenous show that aims to connect all Australians.
The Blackfella show will premiere on ABC TV and ABC Iview on Saturday, July 5th at 7:30pm. This year’s Naidoc Week celebrations will be held from July 6th to 13th.
