Veteran producer Antony I. Ginane will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Producer (SPA) Awards next month.

Ginnane is one of Australia’s most prolific producers, working on over 70 features, miniseries and TV dramas over a five-year career.

He is particularly known for producing Ozprotation films like Patrick (1978) and Turkish filming (1980), but his work envelops a variety of films such as US SF Screamers (1995), Gillian Armstrong Drama High Tide (1988), Lightorsemen (1988), Thriller Last Dance (1988), and Gillian Armstrong Drama High Tide (1988).

In the 1980s, Ginnane worked on independent film distribution in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Hong Kong, and consulted Los Angeles-based Fris Entertainment in the early 90s.

Ginnane’s recent film credits include the 2020 comedy Never To Late, starring James Cromwell, Jackie Weaver, Jack Thompson and 2022’s Horror the Girl in Window. He also held a 2013 reimagining of Patrick. Patrick was directed by Mark Hartley.

In 2014, he co-founded a television production company with writer-producer Chris World, creating the 2017 ABC Medical Drama Pulse.

Ginnane has a history of SPAs and served as president from 2008 to 2011. He also serves on the IFTA board and is a member of the American Producer Guild, Bufftaros Angeles, and the Caucus of Writers, Producers and Directors.

In 2015, he also published the book, “The Unusual Suspects – 104 Films that Made World Cinema.”

“I discovered cinemas in my teens, and it was a lifelong romance. Australian cinemas now have a prominent and appropriate place on the world’s screens. We should all be proud.”

According to the SPA, the Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates Ginnane’s “an extraordinary contribution to screen culture, the relentless pursuit of global reach to Australian narratives, and his commitment to building and shaping an industry that reflects his vision, resilience and entrepreneurship.”

The SPA Awards will be held on May 8th at the Star Gold Coast and will continue on screen.
