Ubisoft today announced a major organizational, operational, and portfolio reset that will pave the way for the studio to make successful games for the company, but ultimately results in the cancellation of six games, including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, and the effective postponement of seven more games.
Ubisoft has discontinued six games that did not meet its newly enhanced quality and more selective portfolio prioritization criteria at the group level. These include the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, as well as four unreleased and mobile titles, including three new IPs. In parallel, the Group will allocate additional development time to seven games to fully meet enhanced quality benchmarks and maximize long-term value creation. This includes unannounced titles originally scheduled for FY26 and postponed to FY27.
This is effectively the second time that a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time has been canceled or restarted in development.
The team said in a statement on social media:
“Dear Prince of Persia community, we want to share this directly with you.
We have made the difficult decision to cease development on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. We know this is very unfortunate. This game means a lot to both the fans and the teams involved in it.
Although this project had great potential, we were not able to reach the quality level you expected, and it did not require the time or investment to continue and be responsible. And we didn’t want to release anything less than what The Sands of Time represents.
Prince of Persia remains deeply important to us as a universe and as a legacy, and this decision does not mean we are moving away from the series.
Thank you for your passion, patience, and love for Prince of Persia.
―Prince of Persia Team”
