HBO has finally released the official trailer for Euphoria season 3. It’s immediately clear that a wild new chapter that will get people talking is about to begin. Watch the trailer above and read on to find out what the new chapter throws at Lou and the rest of Eastland High School’s elite disruption agents.
5 year time jump and a route to find something more stable.
“It’s been a few years since I graduated from high school, and I don’t know if life is exactly what I wanted it to be.” Five years later, Lou (Zendaya) is still running from the consequences, circling and selling drugs. But there’s a beat that suggests she wants something different, even if she doesn’t know how to grab it. We see her in church looking up with the Ten Commandments in her hand. “But somehow, for the first time, I started to have faith,” she says.
If she’s serious about beating the heat, it’s going to be a bumpy road. Laurie, played by Martha Kelly, returns like the menace she’s been patiently waiting for. It’s clear that Lou’s debt is not an old story. Collectors and dealers are coming.
Kathy flaunts it online, Jules’ new lane, and total chaos
Then there’s Cassie (Sidney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi). They plan to get married, but the relationship is far from smooth sailing. One moment in the trailer shows Nate, in lingerie, crouching toward Cassie with a toy bone in his mouth while the housekeeper takes a photo. “I was just creating content,” Cassie tells Nate, but yeah, Nate doesn’t seem happy about that.
Elsewhere, Lexi (Maud Apatow) and Lou share a heartbreaking moment with each other about being single, only for Lexi to headline the following: “Have you heard of Jules?” Jules (Hunter Schafer) seems to be studying art, but also drifts into sugar baby territory. Maddie (Alexa Demme) sums up her new normal: “It’s not that weird. Every girl I meet is a sugar baby.”
The final part kicks into full-blown danger mode, with flashes of Nate covered in blood, Lou running for his life, and the feeling that everyone is living through bad decisions one step away from the headlines. The trailer ends with a terrifying moment of Lou standing as still as possible while balancing an apple on his head as Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaye’s central character Alamo Brown takes aim.
Other cast members and newcomers
Season 3 will see the return of Zendaya, Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, and Elordi, as well as Alexa Demie, Chloe Cherry, Maud Apatow, and two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo.
Once again, major newcomers include Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Deadwyler, and Marshawn Lynch. The trailer also introduces at least one new voice, with Darrell Britt-Gibson’s character warning, “I believe certain people are cursed. I don’t pretend to know why, but there must be something wrong with them.”
Sam Levinson and Coleman Domingo tease ‘epic’ season
The five-year leap doesn’t just age everyone. It would also give the show permission to stop pretending it can be reset. Levinson was candid about why the series needed to move away from lockers and hall passes, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “One thing we all agreed on is we can’t go back to high school. A lot of shows have had 30-year-old high school kids, and we’re not like that.” He added, “If I had gone to college, I would have finished college at that point, so five years felt like a natural place[to jump].” He also called Season 3 “the best season yet.”
Domingo also teased the scope of the new season, saying, “I think it’s going to be a devastatingly gorgeous, epic season that breaks the mold of television.” He added, “I think it’s going to be more of a movie than a TV show.”
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Sweeney said this season has gotten “crazier” than previous seasons, and also said that his character will be “even worse” next season.
At Variety’s Power of Women red carpet in Los Angeles in December, she joked to E! News, “Hold on to that dildo,” and admitted that Cassie brought “a lot of tears,” adding, “It’s Cassie, what do you expect?”
Hans Zimmer joins Labrinth to score season 3
Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer has officially joined Euphoria Season 3, teaming up with returning composer Labyrinth to score the next chapter. When the news was announced, Zimmer said, “I’m honored to join the incredible team of storytellers led by visionary Sam Levinson,” adding, “Together, they have created a bold and moving series that means so much to our viewers. Labyrinth’s music has shaped the show’s identity, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the ongoing story and helping shape this new season through music.”
Labyrinth, who composed the music for the first two seasons and collaborated with Zendaya on songs like “All for Us” and “I’m Tired,” teased the energy they hope to bring to the new season: “A new chapter in the Euphoria universe! It’s so great to be working with Hans, one of my heroes in film music, and to bring some new magic to this new season.”
Levinson also hinted that Zimmer’s influence was there from the beginning, even before the official announcement. “We wrote this season to the score of ‘Interstellar’ and ‘True Romance,'” he said. “So he’s been in our creative DNA from the beginning. I’m really proud of Labyrinth and the work I did last season, and I’m excited for Hans to take us to new heights.”
