HBO Max Australia kicks off 2026 with a strong January lineup, combining prestige dramas, buzzy originals, popular reruns, and solid movies and factual programming. From Westeros-set fantasy and sharp industry dramas to animated satire and headline-grabbing documentaries, there’s plenty to dig into in the new year.
Leading the way this month is Game of Thrones prequel series Knights of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest HBO original from the world of Westeros, with weekly episodes to be released on January 19th, on alternate days with the US Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the six-episode series follows the unlikely bond between the tall Lord Duncan and his resourceful squire Egg, as they wander through a Targaryen-ruled kingdom with Targaryen memories. The dragon still remains.
At the beginning of the month, “Industry” returns for a fourth season on January 12th, putting Harper and Yasmin on a high-stakes global power chase fueled by money, ambition, and a dangerous fintech disruptor, while “The Pit” returns on January 9th with a bigger, more intense second season set in the pressure-cooker world of a Pittsburgh hospital.
January will also see the arrival of the animated Max Original The Prince, with all episodes available, threatening royal life through the mischievous eyes of the fictional Prince George. Fans of true crime and documentaries will be treated to “The Cult of the Real Housewives,” which examines the allegations surrounding Mary Cosby, while comedies, dramas and cult films round out the month with everything from Tig Notaro’s animated stand-up specials to provocative films like Lars von Trier’s “Antichrist” and Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut.”

The Prince, created by Gary Jannetty, is an animated comedy that satirizes the inner workings of the royal family through the eyes of the fictional Prince George, the youngest heir to the throne. From spilling the royal “tea” to skewering palace protocol, George offers a mischievous, candid perspective on the family, their followers and the monarchy in general. With a star-studded cast of voice actors, the series delivers a quirky, warm and unique parody of life inside Buckingham Palace.
