‘Supergirl’ teaser trailer spotlights Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock

The DC Universe opens the door to the wild and messy Kryptonians. Warner Bros. has released the official teaser trailer for Supergirl, which stars Australian star Millie Alcock (House of the Dragon) as a rough-and-tumble hero who has little interest in living up to her cousin’s reputation. Yes, it’s time for Kara Zor-El’s chapter after her quick appearance in Superman. Watch the teaser above and read on to find out all about it.

Rock’n’roll’s Supergirl steals the spotlight

The teaser, soundtracked by Blondie’s “Call Me,” wastes no time in setting the tone. This is Kara Zor-El at her least refined. Hungover, emotionally guarded, and openly skeptical of the heroic ideals that Superman embodies. “He sees the good in everyone,” Cara says in the teaser. “I see the truth.”

The contrast is intentional. Australian director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella, Lars, and the Real Girl) said the film was shaped by Kara’s flaws, not her powers. “As written, Supergirl has a lot of demons and a lot of baggage, and she doesn’t deal with it at the beginning of the movie,” the filmmaker said at a press conference, as quoted by The Screen Brief. “It’s a great starting point for an actor to be able to tap into that and be broken like that and understand that. That’s what really drew me to this work.” That edge is all over the teaser, from Kara’s jaded indifference to the irreverent moments that undermine the mythical image of Krypton’s savior.

A journey of revenge across the galaxy

Inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s limited comic book series Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara as she travels across the galaxy with her superdog Krypto to celebrate her 21st birthday. The celebration quickly turns dark when he meets Lucy Mary Knoll (Eve Ridley), a young woman seeking revenge against Yellow Hills’ brutal Clem (Matthias Schoenaerts).

The teaser hints at its chaotic journey without going into too much detail. Among the snippets on offer are scene-stealing superdogs, Krypton, the destruction of Krypton (“Krypton didn’t die in a day,” Kara says. “The gods aren’t that kind”), an interaction with Lucy Mary Knoll, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene with Jason Momoa’s Lobo, and a number of shots reminiscent of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. heart. Gunn, who heads DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, is of course also a producer here.

The cast, the creators, and where they fit into the new DCU

In addition to Alcock, the film also stars Ridley, Schoenaerts, Momoa, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Allura In-Ze, and Alice Hewkin as the Sklarian Raider. The script will be written by Ana Nogueira, who also has a career as an actress and has appeared on “The Michael J. Fox Show” and “The Vampire Diaries.”

Gunn was clear about the nature of this version at a press conference, saying, “One of the great things about this movie for me is that most of the previous movies with female heroes have been close to perfect villains, but “Supergirl” is not that way.” Back in July, he told Rolling Stone that the film was “more of a rock ‘n’ roll movie. In some ways, it’s a little rougher. She’s a tougher character. She’s not Superman at all. So it’s not the same.[Superman]is really for everyone. So is Supergirl, but in some ways it’s a little bit more edgy than[Superman].”

Supergirl will be released in Australian cinemas on June 25, 2026, and in US cinemas on June 26, 2026.
