Northern Pictures has appointed Goalpost Pictures development producer Polly Rowe as Head of Scripted Development as it continues to expand its scripted projects and factual portfolio.
Lowe joined Goalpost in the first half of 2022 and has since earned credits on popular series such as Prime Video’s Top End Babs and the second season of Stan mystery series Black Snow, as well as working with Netflix and ABC.
Her career in story development began as a dramaturg in the theater department, where she served as literary manager at Sydney Theater Company (STC), working with artistic directors Cate Blanchett, Andrew Upton and Kip Williams to commission and develop over 45 new Australian plays.
She also led the development of acclaimed works such as Nakia Lui’s Black Is the New White and Susie Miller’s RBG, and founded development programs such as Rough Draft and Emerging Writers Group.
Lowe said he is excited to be overseeing the development and commissioning of scripted content at Northern Pictures. Northern Pictures is a company she described as “renowned for its unique creative vision.”
“I was impressed by the team’s talent and creative production methods,” she said.
“Their brilliant strategic and innovative thinking is evident on screen and I look forward to contributing to the expansion of this film.”
The company’s tradition of bold, authentic storytelling is shared around the world. ”
Northern Pictures managing director Matt Vitins said Lowe brought “a clear creative sensibility, a genuine love of scripts and writers, and a deep relationship with some of Australia’s most exciting screenwriting talent” to the role.
“I am delighted to welcome Polly to Northern Pictures,” he said.
“We are excited to work with her as we continue to build the script in development and production.”
Northern Pictures is part of the RACAT Group, which owns and operates Australian Geographic, Australian Geographical Society, Junkie Media and Runawa, an independent New Zealand game developer and publisher.
