Nick Fenton won his second Erie Award on Saturday night, winning Best Feature Film Editing for Justin Kurzel’s FBI drama “The Order.”
He beat out a field that included Danny Cooper in Went Up the Hill, Gretchen Peterson in Jenny Penn’s Rules, and Kasra Rasulzadegan in Dangerous Animals.
The BAFTA-winning British editor now calls Australia home and is a frequent collaborator with Kurzel, having also worked on True History of the Kelly Gang (which was nominated for an Erie Award in 2020), Nitrum (a previous winner) and Ellis Park.
This year’s Erie Awards, held at the State Library of New South Wales, saw 18 trophies awarded, five editors recognized and life membership of Australian Screen Editor awarded to Jill Holt. The ceremony followed ASE’s Cutting It festival, which explores issues faced by editors, assistants and post crews.

Annette Davey’s chances of winning Best Drama Editing for Apple Cider Vinegar are high, considering she was nominated twice for Episode 1 and Episode 2 (starring Matt Evans), and ultimately won for Episode 1. This bodes well for her to win an AACTA award for the series in February, where she is nominated for Episode 5 with Evans.
Other major winners on the night included Chris Bamford, who won best editing for his documentary The Raftsmen, and Ollie Dannon, who won best editing for his documentary and documentary series for Australia: An Unofficial History.
Adam Rainford and Jonathan Tappin won Best Editing for Children’s Entertainment for Tales from Outer Suburbia, and Deborah Peart won Best Editing for Comedy for Strife.
