Los Angeles-based consulting firm Marin Entertainment has acquired a new Australian animated comedy from Peregrine Productions for international representation.
Created during Melbourne’s coronavirus lockdown in 2021, Under Koalafied casts an irreverent lens on rural koalas as they grapple with the increasing pressures of a world of dingoes eating metropolitan dingoes. Mahalia Brown, Tom Armstrong, and Jacqueline Mifsud lead the voice cast.
Peregrine Productions executive producer Richard Di Gregorio developed the series with writer/director Timothy Llewellyn Evans, and illustrator Ninianu Le Page led character designs.
After the creative team spent 12 months and a year defining the show’s style and episode arcs, it took another three years to animate six seven- to 10-minute episodes.
Under Koalafied caught the attention of Malin Entertainment’s Laura Malin and is now aiming for worldwide distribution.
After a lengthy production process that featured late nights and remote collaboration, Di Gregorio was excited to partner with Marine Entertainment to bring the series to the global market.
“In such a competitive market, it is a big step for our range to be recognized internationally,” he said.
Evans, who will be making his writing and directing debut with this film, is also happy to be able to take the next step.
“Under Koalafied has been a big part of my life for the past four years, and I’m excited to share this project with the world,” he said.
