A24 has released the official trailer for How to Make a Kill, a dark comedy thriller that sees Glen Powell slip into a role that combines charm, desperation, and a touch of casual murder. It’s stylish, wicked, and a little sassy. Watch the trailer above and read more.
Powell plays a man with seven problems – and they’re all related.
The film, inspired by the 1949 film Kind Hearts and the Coronets, stars Powell as Beckett Redfellow. Beckett Redfellow is a man thrown out by his millionaire family before letting them down. Now an outsider to his dynasty, Beckett decides that the only way to obtain his fortune is to…prune his family tree.
In the trailer, he lays out the stakes with unsettling ease. “There were seven stakes. Seven big stakes between me and $28 billion.” From there, the tone shifts between glossy elitism and darkly comic mayhem as Beckett begins plotting his way back to the top, one deceased relative at a time.
A strong cast and a director who expects his second film to be a hit
The cast includes actors who excel at telling dark jokes, with Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, Bill Camp, and Ed Harris all playing members of the Redfellow Empire or disabled characters around Powell’s scheming protagonist.
Behind the camera will be the return of writer/director John Patton Ford, who broke out with 2022’s Emily the Criminal. Ford’s script, How to Make a Killing, was blacklisted for years under the title Rothschild until he took over the screenplay himself. With support from A24, production from StudioCanal, and scenes shot in Cape Town, the film looks like a slick, biting sequel from a filmmaker who specializes in haunting crime stories.
release date
“Hick to Make a Kill” will be released in U.S. theaters on February 20, 2026.
