UPDATE: The new Digital PS5 Slim has arrived in Australia, featuring 825GB of storage and an all-matte design, and is listed on Amazon, EB Games, and JB Hi-Fi. The price is the same at $749.95, but it will be heavily discounted (less than $500) later this week.
Original story: The new digital PS5 Slim model rolls out to all regions with some key changes, and YouTuber Austin Evans has gotten his hands on the model.
This is not an announced update and appears to be offered at the same price, but the new model has external and internal changes.
The biggest difference in terms of appearance is that the PS5 Slim now has an all-matte faceplate, instead of a glossy top and matte bottom. The original PS5 Slim SSD was upgraded to 1TB (825GB on the original PS5), but downgraded again to 825GB.
The new PS5 Slim is approximately 120 grams lighter due to a redesigned heatsink structure made from thinner metal, but this does not appear to affect the console’s operating power consumption or temperatures.
This new model has already been rolled out in Europe, and there are no reports of it arriving in Australia yet (new PS5 models are usually the first to get it), but it won’t be long before this replaces the current 1TB Slim.
If you want the PS5 Slim 1TB, it’s a good time to jump in and buy one, as it’s currently marked down to $699 ($130 off) on Amazon.
