Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct early this morning (1am to be exact!), where they released the first trailer and cast announcement for Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which will be released in April 2026.
Shigeru Miyamoto served as the host and introduced the trailer and some of the new cast members who will be participating in the sequel. Directory was then handed over to Chris Meledandri, head of Illumination Animation Studios.
The sequel stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Jack Black (Bowser). Brie Larson, who plays Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, who plays Bowser Jr., join the cast.
The trailer gives us a closer look at the star parts and designs of some of the planets in the galaxy that appeared in the first two Super Mario Galaxy games. Interestingly, there are some shots that look like they were taken from a desert level in Super Mario Odyssey, and possibly some from Super Mario Sunshine.
These are blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, but I’m sure we’ll get a closer look at these locations if we have enough time until the movie’s release next April. Obviously missing are Donkey Kong and Yoshi, but they probably won’t be joining this intergalactic adventure (or maybe they’ll actually have their own spin-off project!)
