Prime Video and the BBC have released the first images from season 2 of The Night Manager, which stars Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman as Jonathan Pine and Angela Barr. Check out the images above and below, and read everything we know so far. Eight years after that explosive finale, the series jumps to the present and, for the first time, goes beyond the pages of John le Carré. Filming took place in England, Spain, Colombia, and France.

What are the settings this time?

Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) plays Alex Goodwin, a junior MI6 officer who quietly runs a surveillance unit in London. Naturally, the silence didn’t last. A fleeting glimpse of the former roper mercenary draws him back onto the field, heading straight for Colombian businessman Teddy dos Santos (Diego Calva). The road winds into a plan involving weapons and training of guerrilla forces. In such operations, every handshake is a gamble and trust can be a luxury.

Who is new?

Diego Calva (Babylon, Narcos: Mexico) stars as Teddy, and Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones and the Six) plays Roxana Bolaños, a businesswoman who reluctantly helps Pine infiltrate Teddy’s operation. Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) will play Mayra, Paul Chahidi (Wicked Little Letters, The Serpent Queen) will play Basil, and Hayley Squires (Adult Material, Beau Is Afred) will play Sally.

Who’s back?

In addition to Hiddleston and Coleman, season 1 stalwarts return: Alistair Petrie (Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge (Joker, Black Mirror) as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone (Trace, Rome) as Frisky, and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place, Honey Boy) as Daniel Roper.

Who is making it?

Season 2 will be created and executive produced by David Farr, based on the character created by John le Carré, with all episodes directed by BAFTA Award winner George Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls). The series is produced by The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, with Spanish co-producer Nostromo Pictures.

Where will it be streamed?

In the UK, the new season will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Internationally (excluding the UK), it will be streamed on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories. A specific release date has not yet been announced.

Previously in season 1

The six-part first series, directed by Suzanne Bier and starring Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Coleman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki, premiered on BBC One on 21 February 2016 and was sold to over 180 countries.

The plot was that Pine, a night manager at a Cairo hotel and a former British soldier, is scouted at a bar to infiltrate imperial arms dealer Richard Roper (Laurie).

The show received 36 nominations and 11 wins, including two Primetime Emmy Awards (for director Bia and composer Victor Reyes) and three Golden Globe Awards (for Hiddleston, Coleman, and Lowry).

The Indian version will be released for the first time in 2023, starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala.
