We’ve been hearing whispers and promising news for a while now, but a sequel to Jennifer’s Body starring Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox is officially in the works, and director Karyn Kusama has just announced a promising update.
Kusama talks about Cody’s script
In an interview with Deadline, Kusama shared some information, confirming that screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult, Tully) is working on the script. “I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m really looking forward to hearing how it turns out,” Kusama said.
“I’m not going to give anything away because I know some of the nuts and bolts of this movie, but it sounds just as fun and crazy as the first movie. And I have no doubt that Diablo is going to do something absolutely incredible with this one.”
A sequel that took a long time to make
Talk of a return to the cult horror comedy is steadily building. Amanda Seyfried told Adam Brody on the variety show Actors on Actors in June that she was “working on her next project” and made it clear that she would not be participating without Megan Fox.
Meanwhile, Cody has been vocal about wanting to reprise the film for years, telling Bloody Disgusting last year: “I’m not done with ‘Jennifer’s Body’…I need to partner with people who believe in this movie as much as I do, and that hasn’t really happened yet. I have a billion dollars and I need people who believe in this movie.”

Cody also tied the 2024 horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein to the same continuity, telling Deadline at the premiere: “I’m just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe. That’s what I decided.” It was another wink to fans that “Jennifer’s Body” isn’t over yet.
Current situation
There is no official casting news, synopsis, or release schedule yet. Importantly, Cody is actively writing. Director Kusama has been hearing so much that she promises the film will be “just as fun and crazy as the previous film.” Sixteen years later, the film that went from box office disappointment to cult favorite is closer to its second act than ever before.
