The world of Prison Break is expanding once again, as Hulu has officially ordered a new series set in the world of the hit Fox show.
The upcoming show comes from Mayans MC co-creator Elgin James, who wrote and directed the pilot before getting the green light. James will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Prison Break author Paul Sheuring also serving as executive producer, along with Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz. The series is produced by the original production studio, 20th Television.
Unlike past revivals, this new version does not continue the story of brothers Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). Instead, it introduces fresh characters within the same gritty world. The cast is led by Australian star Emily Browning (American Gods, Sucker Punch) as Cassidy, a military officer turned corrections officer determined to prove how far he will go for the people he loves when he takes a job in one of the country’s most dangerous prisons.
Joining Browning are Drake Rodger (The Winchesters) as Tommy, Lucas Gage (You) as Jackson, Clayton Cardenas (Mayans MC) as Michael “Ghost,” J.R. Bourne (Teen Wolf) as Junior, Georgie Flores (13 Reasons Why) as Andrea, and Miles Bullock (BMF) as Darius “Red.” The pilot also starred Priscilla Delgado, Ray McKinnon, Margo Martindale, Donal Logue, Lili Taylor, and Sylvester Powell.
The original Prison Break premiered in 2005 and was a huge hit on Fox, airing for four seasons and spawning the made-for-TV movie Final Break in 2009. A limited revival followed in 2017, with Miller and Purcell co-starring again for nine episodes. The series expanded into webisodes, video games, and even a mobile spin-off during its run, and continued to build a devoted fanbase. Just last year, Prison Break was named the No. 1 most streamed series in the U.S. in August 2024, according to Nielsen.
