The official trailer for Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Memories, an hour-long Disney+ documentary special about Chris Hemsworth’s intimate motorcycle journey with his father Craig after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, has arrived. Watch the documentary trailer above and read the highlights.
This is not a flashy travelogue. Hemsworth and his father head from the suburbs of Melbourne to the Northern Territory to revisit the people and places that shaped their family. Its purpose is simple, human, and quietly brave. It uses memories, places, and connections to ignite what the disease seeks to dim. The film was created in close collaboration with the Hemsworth family over the course of a year, with Chris filming some of the footage himself.
As Hemsworth says, “My dad and I had always talked about taking a trip to the Northern Territory, where my family lived many years ago, but we never really had the time to do it. Recently, the idea of going on that road trip resurfaced with more pressing significance. The result was a journey deeper, more moving, and more surprising than I ever expected.”
Led by Dr Suraj Samtani (UNSW Health Center for Brain Aging), Special Threads takes an evidence-backed approach through a ride that includes reminiscence therapy (old photos, home videos, meaningful places), steady social interaction and broader ‘social bridges’ through community activities. There are more than 57 million people living with dementia worldwide, and approximately 10 million new cases of dementia occur each year.
The special was directed by Tom Barber-Might (whose credits include one episode of Hemsworth’s Limitless series) and produced by Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa, Jane Root’s Nutopia, and Wild State (Hemsworth and Ben Grayson).
“Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Memories” will be available on Disney+ starting November 24th.
