The official trailer for The Keeper, the latest film from horror filmmaker Osgood Perkins (Long Legs, The Monkey), has arrived. After releasing two critically acclaimed genre works in just one year, Perkins is back with another spooky descent. Watch the trailer above and read the gist.
Huts, Couples, and Uneasy Shifts
Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, Monkey) and Rosif Sutherland (Possessed) star as Liz and Malcolm, a couple celebrating their anniversary in a secluded cabin. When Malcolm unexpectedly returns to town, the trip takes a turn for the worse, leaving Liz alone to face whatever’s lurking in the house. As isolation deepens, the film spirals into obsession, loss, and psychological breakdown.
Horror icons are also important
The trailer includes a roll call of enthusiastic nods from the filmmakers, with Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) praising the film as “a masterfully folded piece of horror origami.” James Wan (The Conjuring) calls it “a terrifying, ghostly descent into madness.” Damian Leone (The Terrifier series) added, “Perkins continues to establish himself as a fearsome voice in horror.” It’s rare to see such strong hitters all praising a manager in unison.
Perkins momentum and messy processes
‘Keeper’ marks Perkins’ third collaboration with distributor Neon, following the back-to-back successes of ‘Longlegs’ and ‘The Monkey.’ Unusually, the film was shaped in real time during production. As Perkins told ComicBook.com, “It was written in real time by my friend Nick Leppard (screenwriter of Dangerous Animals) while we were making the movie. It was like an expressionist painting.” That improvisational energy seems to be in the film’s DNA, with the department, cast, and script evolving together on the fly.
release date
The Keeper will be released in Australian cinemas on November 13th and in US cinemas on November 14th.
