Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys square off in tense trailer for Netflix series ‘The Beast in Me’

The official trailer for The Beast in Me, Netflix’s new miniseries starring Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys about the mind games of a neighbor from hell, has arrived. Watch the trailer above and read the gist.

“Did you kill her?” asks grieving writer Aggie Wiggs. “What do you think?” Niall Jarvis (Rees) is the attractive real estate tycoon who lives next door and is the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. Intrigued and inspired by the desire to write again, Aggie chooses Nile as the subject of her next book, continuing to draw her into Weasel and Mouse territory.

This is not simply a relationship between writer and subject. The trailer depicts two predators testing who can blink first. “You have murderous intent,” Niall tells her at one point. “I can smell it.”

Danes, who reunited with Homeland alumnus and showrunner Howard Gordon, said he was reminded of journalist and critic Janet Malcolm while making Aggie. “There was a book called ‘The Journalist and the Murderer’ that I kept referring to when I first started thinking about this story,” she told Netflix site Tudom. “You start to see that this writer and this murderer are kind of of equal value. And how is that possible? I thought this idea of the writer being a sniper and a potentially predatory character was really interesting.”

Rhys pushes the mirror further up and says, “There’s a great resemblance between them… They see each other as comrades, but very unlikely comrades. It’s both a charm and a kind of revelation.”

The eight-episode miniseries from showrunner/writer/executive producer Howard Gordon and creator Gabe Rotter (The X-Files) also stars Brittany Snow (Nile’s spouse Nina), Natalie Morales (Aggie’s ex-wife Shelly), Jonathan Banks (Martin Jarvis), Deirdre O’Connell (Carol), and David Lyons (FBI agent Brian). Abbott) etc.

The Beast in Me premieres on Netflix on November 13th.
