The official teaser trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO’s new Game of Thrones prequel set a century before the main story, has arrived. Watch the trailer above and read the gist.
tall and small
We are introduced to the tall Ser Duncan (Peter Claffey), a crusty, big-hearted hedge knight looking to make a name for himself, and his diminutive squire Egg (Dexter Sol Unsell), who is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen. Their path crosses a humbler Westeros, where the Targaryens still reign, though tournament feuds, binding oaths, and dragons have faded from memory.
tone and approach
This production will be smaller and lighter, with six half-hour episodes and character-first adventures. Expect dust, dents, and quiet moral trials over the explosion of palace intrigue. The scrapes start in the tournament ring and ripple all the way to the crown.
From page to screen
Based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight, the first season adapts the opening story. Martin, who co-wrote and executive produced alongside showrunner Ira Parker, teased the film as “as faithful a film adaptation as any sane person could hope for,” and the story is delivered with the shaggy, roadside charm that has made it a fan favorite.
