Prime Video has released the official trailer for Playdate, an action comedy starring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson that begins with juice boxes and small talk and expands into minivan mayhem and mercenaries. One YouTuber commenter said, “I didn’t know we needed a Paul Blart/Reacher crossover.” Watch the trailer above and read the gist.
Brian (James), a recently unemployed accountant, agrees to a high-stakes gamble with fellow father Jeff (Ritchson) and his children. Ten minutes later, they’re sprinting away from a crew of hired guns, Brian weaving through obstacles with zero tactical skill, and Jeff looks suspiciously…ready. It’s a playground where politics and professional killers meet, and cones, coolers, and car seats become collateral damage.
This could be an easy and potentially fun viewing here. Director Luke Greenfield (“Let’s Be Cops,” “The Next Door”) leans into the odd couple’s turmoil, with slapstick clashes, bone-rattling brawls, and “Why is this happening?” set piece. Screenplay by Neil Goldman (The Shrinking, Scrubs).
In addition to Ritchson and James, the ensemble features Sarah Chalk, Alan Tudyk, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, Hiro Kanagawa, Stephen Root, and Isla Fisher.
Producers include Greenfield, Jason Benoit, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Mark Fasano, and Jeffrey Greenstein, and executive producers include Ritchson, Dan Spiro, Goldman, Michelle Myers, Alexis Garcia, Matthew Goldberg, Lee Broda, and Jamal Sanon.
Playdate will stream worldwide on Prime Video starting November 12th.
