ABC commissioned the fourth season of Ambience Entertainment’s hit series Muster Dogs along with the second season of the spinoff Master Dogs.
In the fourth article, we will add a new twist to the franchise to shift the trainer’s own spotlight. In just 12 months, we will challenge six participants with limited experience in handling dogs and stocks to raise and train dogs working from puppies to paddock responses.
Meanwhile, where are they now? This season 2 will travel around Australia to check in dog progress and see how the lives of the participants in season 3 competed.
Muster Dogs is based on the original concept of Ambience’s Michael Boughen, developed in collaboration with ABC.
Over the new season, Monica O’Brien will be the series director alongside director Sally Browning, both producing at Bogen. John Unwin is co-produced and will receive additional instructions. Ambience’s Matthew Street is an executive who produces alongside ABC’s Rachel Robinson, and the ABC’s commissioning editor is Jo Chichester.
Screen Queensland and Screen NSW offer production investments.
Muster Dogs updates have been sold to 95 countries via ABC commercials on platforms such as BBC, Netflix and Prime Video, and are also available in major markets such as the US, UK, New Zealand and France. Beyond screens, the series has also succeeded in product, publishing and other licensed extensions.
“We are so proud of our convened dogs and are excited that this original Australian series has captured the hearts of local and international audiences,” said ABC documentary and specialist Susie Jones.
“Mustard dogs provide authentic insight into the agricultural sector and life on the land. We are delighted that these incredible Australians and their extremely talented dogs continue to find new fans around the world.”
Jessica Ellis of ABC Commercial Head added: “Must Dogs is a true Australian success story with genuine charm, leveraging the authentic, universal appeal. The international incorporation of the format and completed series, combined with a sensible licensing strategy, is a testament to the unique charm and broad marketability of the show.”
Season 2, Season 4 and Mustard Dog will air season 2 on ABC TV and ABC Iview in 2026.
