Daniel Day Lewis is back. The official trailer dropped for Anemone, the first screen role of three Oscar winners since Phantom Thread (2017). Day-Lewis co-written the film with his son Ronan Day-Lewis. Please read the trailer above and read more about it.
Located in northern England, Anemone plays Gem Stalker by Sean Bean, who finds Ray (Daniel Day Lewis), a man heading into the woods, to the forest. “Men share difficult relationships, even if they sometimes have a kind relationship,” the official logline reads “what was changed forever by shattering events decades ago.” The trailer leaned against a gloomy, tense atmosphere and impressive visuals, revealing that this is not a peaceful reunion.
Alongside Bean and Day Lewis, the film’s cast includes Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Saffia Oakley Green. Behind the camera, Ronan Day-Lewis teams up with cinematographer Ben Fordesman (Saint Maud, Love Lies Bleeding) and production designer Chris Oddy (The Gonest of Trecone, under Skin).
It’s been eight years since the previous films of Day-Lewis. The Phantom Thread won him his sixth Oscar nomination, feeling like a lauded career curtain call. The project that brings him back will attract attention. The fact that this is a personal collaboration only elevates the plot. For Ronan, this may be the perfect way to make a high-profile debut.
Anemone will premiere at the New York Film Festival. The focus feature will release the film on October 3rd at Limited US Cinema on October 3rd, and will then expand on October 10th.
