Paramount
Paramount waved Dexter: Original Sin – a sharp pivot after announcing the second season in April. The first part of 1991 premiered in December 2024 and wrapped in February. The advertised second run never comes true, the writer’s room is not opened, and production dates are not set. For now, the franchise focus appears to be straight for Dexter: Resurrection.
Following the merger of Skydance and Paramount, Showtime monitoring has moved to the Matt Thunell and Paramount Television Studios teams. The Season 2 Writer’s Room for Dexter: Dexter: Resurrection has been commissioned ahead of the finale and is intended to lead to approval of the green light pending budget.
Variety first reported Dexter’s reversal: the original sin and the movement to open the room of season 2 writers for Dexter: a resurrection.
Numbers and Trajectories
Dexter: The Revival was released on July 11th and concluded season one on September 5th. The premier scored 3.1 million in the first three days, with 4.4 million to seven, with the season reaching 94% of critics of the Rotten Tomatoes. For context, Dexter: First Sin opened to 2.1 million global audiences in the first three days, up 27% to 268 million in the finale. The season is currently in 70% of rotten tomatoes.
What’s next for the franchise?
Dexter: The Original Sin is closed as a story of the origins of a season (Patrick Gibson as young Dexter, Michael C. Hall provides an inner monologue, and Christian Slater as Harry). The current play is to continue moving the current story forward with Dexter: Resurrection. Meanwhile, you will move to other “uncertain” columns, like the other previously “Trinity Killer” projects.
