The A24 has dropped the official Marty Supreme teaser. While billed as a “teaser,” the two-minute preview offers a large slice of what Josh Safdie’s Solo Directorial Return has in store.
Please read the trailer above and read more about it.
Timothée Chalamet offers 1950s sports dramas with “Marty Supreme.”
Chalamet stars as Marty Moser. The man decides to prove that table tennis can fill the stadium and raise him to the cover of a Wheety box. “I know it’s difficult, but I’m telling you, this game, it fills the stadium overseas,” he tells skeptical Kevin O’Leary.
The teaser shows pleading with Gwyneth Paltrow’s fascinating movie star – “I’ve never spoken to an actual movie star… you know, I’m like a performer too” – and levelling about most of Odessa Azion’s ambition: “I have a purpose… and that obligation is at the expense of.” Between fast cut rallies, smoky clubs and sharply engraved interactions, it’s a portrait of a hustler navigating a sport the world isn’t ready to take seriously.
Although not confirmed, Deadline reports that the film is loosely drawn from the life of real Ping-Pong player Marty Reisman.
cast
Alongside Charamette, the cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa Azion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler O’Comma (aka Tyler, creator), Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher.
Josh Safdy’s first solo film in over 10 years
The Marty Supreme marks the efforts of Josh Safdy’s first solo director since the joy of being “stolen” in 2008. Safdie will co-write the script with Ronald Bronstein and produce it alongside Chalamet, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.
The film continues Safdie’s successful collaboration with the A24, following a good time and uncut gem, co-directed with his older brother Benny Safdi. Also, Benny has released his own A24 project, Dwayne Johnson-Starring The Smashing Machine later this year.
release date
Marty Supreme is scheduled to open in US cinemas on December 25th.
