Apple and A24 have released the official trailer for Highest 2 Lowest, a crime thriller that will bring Denzel Washington and filmmaker Spike Lee (Inside Man, Malcolm X) together for nearly 20 years. Please read the trailer above and read more about it.
Washington stars as David King, known as “Best Ears in Business,” a music giant known for his unparalleled instincts. When his son is lured and restrained for ransom, King is forced to make a high pressure decision that could cost more than mere money.
Jeffrey Wright co-stars as King’s driver and best friend Paul, while Ilfenesh Hadera plays King’s wife Pam. A$AP Rocky appears as Yung Felon, an ambitious rapper who is about to break into King’s orbit.
The lowest is a contemporary reinterpretation of the 1963 film High and Low, by the 1959 novel king in the 1963 novels based on ransom by Ed McBain. Lee’s version moves the action to what is now New York City, swapping corporate executive offices into the music industry, changing social dynamics in the process.
The film began competing at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival 36 years after Lee’s Do The Right Thing debuted at the same event. Seeing positive reviews from the festival, he is currently earning a rotten tomato score of 89% from critics.
The creative team here includes cinematographer Matthew Libatik (Black Swan), editor Barry Alexander Brown (Black Clanman) and composer Howard Drossin (Protector). Producers include Todd Black, Jason Michael Berman and Katia Washington.
The lowest 2 will open on US Cinema on August 15th, and will begin streaming globally on Apple TV+ from September 5th.
