Cursed VHS tapes, missing YouTubers, and what lurks in the shadows – Shelby Oaks trailer is here, offering a blend of horror and psychological elucidation of discovered footage. This marks the feature debut of writer-director Chris Stuckmann, a filmmaker who became a longtime YouTube film critic.

Ghost towns and imaginary demons that may not be so fictional
The story disappears as sister Riley, a paranormal investigator with YouTube followers, explores the abandoned town of Shelby Oaks. As Mia digs deeper into her sister’s last known location, the imaginary demons they feared that the children might be real begin to question.
The cast includes Brendan Sexton III, Michael Beach, Robin Bartlett, Keith David, Charlie Talbert, Emily Bennett and Sarah Dern.
Stackman’s Critics to Creator
In 2021, Stackman announced that he would scale back traditional film reviews and stop criticizing “bad” films. He explained that his focus shifted to filmmaking and that his experience of looking at the time and effort behind filmmaking changed the way he approached criticism. He said he wanted to focus on analysis, discussion and help others understand the filmmaking process.
That same year, Stackman signed with the Gotham Group to develop several horror projects, including the Shelby Oaks. Originally, filming was scheduled to begin in late 2021, but the project was delayed due to fundraising challenges and the looming threat of industry strikes. The Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2022, raised USD 1.39 million for the film.
release date
Shelby Oaks will be released in US cinemas via neon on October 3rd. In Australia, the film is scheduled to be distributed by Madman Entertainment, and a release date has not yet been announced.
