The third season of ABC Comedy Fisk led the Charge at last night’s TV Weekly Awards, winning five statues, including the best screenplay comedy.
The cast of the irreverent comedy wiped out the acting category and brought home the best lead actress in comedy (Kitty Flanagan), the best lead actor in comedy (Aaron Chen), the best support actor (Glen Butcher), and the best support actress (Julia Zemiro).
Also, Home and Away’s Linne McGranger was awarded the best lead actress in the drama and the most popular personality on Australian television, Goldlogy (first win in both categories), which is thus awarded her for her portrayal of Bay Resident Eileen Roberts in the summer.
McGranger, who finishes SOAP this month more than 30 years later, told the crowd during his Goldlogy speech that he worked with “no the best crew in the world.”
“When I was finishing it, I probably had to work 13 or 14 hours. I was crying like a bitch,” she said.
“These guys do it every week this week and certainly they cry a little, but they’re very good at their work. This show floats with great writers and great productions. Yeah, it’s soap.
Fellow Septure Genarian Sam Neil won the best lead actor in the drama of his role as Brett Colby SC in Foxtel/Binge Drama The Twelve, which won the most popular actor in the series in 2023.
Of the other streaming titles nominated, Seesaw Movie and Picking Sheenas’ Victorian Shot Drama Apple Cider Vinegar was named the best miniseries or Telemoby.
ABC was a big winner of the night, taking out the Best Structured Reality Program (Muster Dogs: Collies & Kelpies), Best Current Affairs Program (Australia Story), Best Children’s Program (Bluey), and Best Drama Program (Return to Paradise).
ABC screen director Jennifer Collins said he was excited to see the station recognize its program and talent in so many genres.
“What a great night for ABC and Fisk,” she said.
“I’m absolutely delighted to Kitty and the entire cast. Congratulations to all our teams and production partners.”
This year’s awards, hosted by Sam Pang, have abolished the best categories in favor of the updated “best” awards determined by industry judge scores in accordance with set rating criteria (30%), ratings (20%) and Australian public votes (50%). The most popular presenter, Goldlogy, is the most popular new talent, and was determined by audience votes for new awards for most popular news and current affairs.
